What is Phonics?
Phonics is where you teach children to read and write by teaching them the individual sounds of letters. Once a child knows several sounds, they then start to blend them together to read and write words. Children move onto captions and finally, sentences.
When teaching a child to read using Phonics, you can use a variety of resources to support your child as not all children learn using worksheets. I often use different games and quizzes on websites.
Here are 3 websites which I use frequently…
1. www.phonicsplay.co.uk– This website is brilliant. It has both free and paid for Phonics activities which are appropriate for younger children.
2. www.phonicsbloom.com– This website covers different activities linked to all the Phonics phases so whatever stage your child is at, it is appropriate for them. Again, it offers paid and free features.
3. www.topmarks.co.uk– Topmarks has a whole host of activities for children covering not only Phonics but English and Maths as well.
Have you tried any of these websites out? Let me know in the comments.
